Guidance for the implementation of interventions should be developed by a national commission that provides neutral, evidence-based guidance and recommendations in order to improve the health communication landscape. I don’t think that it makes sense to leave sole responsibility for decisions about intervention to technology companies during public health emergencies. Many efforts have been made over the course of the pandemic to take action against false information and the people who spread it, but the problem is immense and continues to get worse. It’s clear that we need active, transparent, nonpartisan intervention from online social media and news sources.
